Rant Maggie Rant brings Celtic Christmas to Stratford’s Knox Church December 13

6th Annual Frost & Fire: A Celtic Christmas Celebration! & Tradition

Stratford, ON (December 2, 2014) Rant Maggie Rant (RMR) brings a grandiose dose of Celtic holiday spirit to Stratford’s Knox Presbyterian Church on December 13 at 8:00 pm. This is a benefit concert with proceeds going to the church.

The holidays are a great time to revive family traditions. RMR began hosting their Frost & Fire Tour five years ago, and it didn’t take long for both the musicians and their fans to realize how much the holiday season was becoming an inspiring tradition for them all. “Now, the holiday season doesn’t seem like it’s here, until we share it with our fans and friends that have grown with us throughout the years,” says the band’s fiddler Lindsay Schindler.

“It will be a special evening for the entire family, including my family,“ added Lindsay Schindler, whose three children will be in the front row of the church with their tiny feet keeping beat to the band’s music, particularly mom’s fiddle.

Rant Maggie Rant will welcome in the holiday season with an eclectic program of music with repertoire that ranges from Early Music, ancient and traditional Celtic melodies, blazing jigs and reels, contemporary songs given full Celtic treatment (including the band's delightful arrangement of David Francey’s “Skating Rink”), classic carols and lesser known seasonal fare, original compositions and a few quirky surprises!

Based in Stratford, Ontario, Rant Maggie Rant showcases the talents of Lindsay Schindler (fiddle, background vocals), Glen Dias (lead vocals, recorders, percussion) and Barry James Payne (guitars, harmonica, background vocals). Joining them this season will be guest musicians Rob Larose (drums, percussion) and Steve Clark (bass), who hail from London; Toronto’s Daev Clysdale (Irish whistle, Irish flute and accordion); as well as Dan Stacey (champion fiddler and step dancer); Graham Hargrove (percussion), Lucinda Jones (vocalist); and Rosanna Vito (harp).

Rant Maggie Rant took home hardware at the 2013 Jack Richardson Music Awards gala on April 14, 2013. The band received a Jack Richardson Music Award in the Traditional Folk/Roots category. The awards recognize musical excellence in the City of London, Ontario, where all of the members of the band have London connections, and continue to contribute to the vibrant music scene in that city.

The hard-working trio has covered a lot of ground over the last two years performing throughout Newfoundland, on Canada’s west coast, in Quebec and south of the border in Chicago, Illinois and Saline, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan and many venues in between. Earlier this year the band performed in Sarnia and Port Huron, Michigan with the International Symphony Orchestra; Ottawa’s National Arts Centre; London’s Home County Music & Arts Festival; Goderich Celtic Roots Festival; and most recently with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.

A joyful explosion of sound, Rant Maggie Rant is loved by traditionalists, who enjoy their time-honoured approach and style, while listeners of other musical genres are drawn to the band's fusion of punchy roots/blues/rock guitar and the syncopated World influences of hand drumming spiced with Latin, Middle Eastern and African rhythms.

The band has three CDs available: self-titled (2013), Frost & Fire: A Celtic Christmas Celebration (2011) and World’s Edge (2009).
