World’s Largest Single Day Maple Syrup Festival celebrates 50th anniversary

Elmira Maple Syrup Festival to welcome thousands of visitors for landmark anniversary celebration

WATERLOO REGION, Ont. – Tap into some sweet fun this spring and taste the tradition of one of Waterloo Region’s oldest festivals.

The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival, marking its 50th anniversary this year, will take place April 5th from 7:00AM - 4:00PM. The festival covers the entire town of Elmira for one day to celebrate everything to do with the iconic Canadian treat.

“Every year thousands of people from across Canada make it a point to visit The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival,” said Minto Schneider, General Manager of Waterloo Regional Tourism Marketing Corporation.
“It’s turned into one of the must visit festivals in the Waterloo Region, which is already loaded with tons of other amazing festivals happening all throughout the year.”

At the festival visitors can chow down on golden-brown pancakes covered in the famous maple syrup, browse craft booths, pick up some apple fritters, baked goods and maple syrup at the half-mile-long outdoor mall, cheer on participants in the pancake flipping contest, take in live cookingdemonstrations, visit the sugar bush or take part in dozens of other activities all happening during the one day festival.

The proceeds raised by the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival are donated to non-profit organizations in the Waterloo Region community. To date, the Festival has raised millions of dollars for these organizations.

“With the recent arrival of spring it’s a great time to come to the Waterloo Region. Visiting the Festival is a great reason to plan a visit to Waterloo Region and with all of the incredible attractions in the area it’s easy to make the trip into a full weekend getaway,” said Schneider.

To get to the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival you can walk, ride a bike, take a car or hop a ride on the Waterloo Central Railway. This unique mode of transportation will make three trips from Waterloo to Elmira on April 5th. Take a step back in time and see the countryside by rail when visiting this year’s festival.
