Jazz on the Mountain at Blue launches inaugural festival in July

BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON  – Blue Mountain Village will play host to the newest jazz festival in Canada, July 5-7, 2013. Set in the resort’s pedestrian village, with free and ticketed indoor and outdoor shows, visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience performances with musical greats, and up and coming artists.

Arnold Schwisberg, founder and producer of Jazz On The Mountain At Blue, announced the exciting headliner line-up of the inaugural event for the first weekend in July, as well as the launch of the festival’s official website www.bluemountainjazzfest.com.

“Jazz On The Mountain At Blue is setting the stage to be regarded as one of the most innovative jazz festivals in the country,” says Schwisberg, a lawyer whose passion for jazz has also led to a career as a radio and TV host, a record producer for Universal Music, and a consultant with jazz festivals in Montreal and Toronto.

"Jazz On The Mountain At Blue will have something for everyone, not just jazz fans,” says Schwisberg. “All visitors to Blue Mountain Village and their families will be able to enjoy the free street festival components with acoustic musicians, face-painters and street performers. Ticketed shows will provide access to some of the world’s best musical artists performing in an intimate setting in the Blue Mountain Village.”

Jazz On The Mountain At Blue will be offering a very different experience. Blue Mountain Village is nestled between the Niagara Escarpment and the sparkling shores of Georgian Bay. This pedestrian-only village, with its stone pathways connecting the resort’s plazas and squares, is an ideal setting for a more intimate and highly interactive jazz festival.

The three-day festival will showcase close to 30 concerts with more than 80 musicians. Free jazz, pop and R&B performances will be staged in the heart of Blue Mountain Village at Events Plaza.  Ticketed events will take place at the outdoor mainstage, at the foot of North Mountain. Tickets go on sale April 18 at 10:00 a.m.

Singer Holly Cole will open the festival on the main stage Friday night with a sublime “Jazz At Twilight” presentation.  American contemporary keyboard master Jeff Lorber and legendary saxophonist Kenny Garrett are both scheduled to perform. On their first North American tour in more than 20 years, Jazz On The Mountain At Blue will feature the stunning vibes of British jazz-pop sensation Swing Out Sister. The full concert schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

Don Braden, president of the Blue Mountain Village Association, says the festival is an exciting new addition to the growing calendar of outstanding events in the resort. "We've been impressed with the planning process, the program and the professionalism of Jazz On The Mountain At Blue. Visitors to the festival are in for a real treat this July."

The festival aims to attract thousands of visitors to Blue Mountain Village. With more than 40 shops, restaurants and bars, and a vast range of accommodations, visitors to Jazz On The Mountain At Blue can enjoy the music, an amazing array of amenities and attractions, and the endless choice of activities provided by a mountain playground.

Bev Philp, vice-president, Sales and Marketing for Blue Mountain Resort says the festival is a great way to introduce people to the expanded summer offerings at Blue Mountain Resort. “Blue is more than Ontario’s favourite winter destination. The summer attractions such as the Cascades Putting Course, Timber Challenge Ropes course and the new Wind Rider Triple Zip round out the traditional beach, golf, hiking and tennis options located at the resort. Combined with the Village entertainment, shops, restaurants and over 1,000 lodging units, Blue Mountain is an unmatched summer destination.”
